It was a cool winter morning. About 36 degrees if I remember correctly. I had already woken up driken my hot coco and gotter dressed, with my waders and pack basket ready to go I stepped out the back door. The cold stiff wall of that Northern wind hit be like a brick wall but once I got out from the house a bit it died down some. I got to the back of my yard, jumped the ditch and entered the soy bean field in which i used to get to the area I trapped. When I got to the end of the field I hit the "big ditch" to which I trapped muskrats in. The thin layer of ice was butifull laying over the water! I began the trek down the ditch to a muskrat bank den to which I had a #110 conibear set in front of. When I got to where my trap was set I set my pack basket down and hopped down the bank (with great anticipation) to what might be in it. I hopped there would be somthing in the trap but I didnt think there would be, so when I reached doen in to my surprize, 1.) ther trap didnt go off in my hand. 2.) I felt fur and the trap set off!!! It was my first muskrat! I quickly took the rat out of the trap, reset it and ran back to my house as fast as I could. when I got back I showed it to my parrents, my dad was quite impressed, as he didnt think that Id get anything. Well I took that one out to the garrage and skinned him out and put him in the freezer. i went on to catch five more muskrats and sold them to a good friend and local fur buyer for around $40 for the six of them!
