Last year I cut about 10 cord of wood and piled it behind my house then got busy with work and gone a lot so it didn't get split or hauled inside. I had a good bunch already in the wood room but ran out mid winter so hooked up the pull behind and dug down to the wood and split then drug it to the house. I know better but just got lazy on my days off. Already got about 3 cords split and staked and sure glad it's ready to burn since we heat only with the stove and have had a fire going since Monday. It's been in the 20s at night and raining with snow for the rest of the week. Going to barrow a splitter this weekend. Shouldn't need to trip to many trees this summer and wanting it all done by the end of June. If I can get this all done I will be set for the winter and spend more time with the family when I get back home and fish and hunt more this fall. Now I am trying to hunt bears a few days and haul wood the rest. Need to get either one finished before long or I am going to run out of steam. Jon

It's been cool here, but not cool enough for a fire. I had The grass is starting to finally grow but it's dry. I've had the water running on the pasture and it's been across once but when I moved it yesterday morning I had ice under them. We've been heating with wood the last few years. Since last year was a mild one I still have about two cord left on the back porch. I'll probably have to haul in three loads to get ready for winter. I used the money out of one of the calves I sold last fall and bought a hydraulic spliter. That made a world of difference. I could split a pickup load in about an hour.

I am wanting to buy a splitter since I burn around 8 - 10 cords a season. Got half my pile split and stacked today. Shoulders are a little sore after swinging the 12 lbs sledge most of the day. The wood I have now has been under snow since last Oct so it's pretty wet and I am thinking about using it for my resurve pile and tripping some more trees to fill the wood room. Hoping to spend one more winter in the house we live in now and trying to buy something next year in the spring before I get busy with work. I will always have a wood stove and hoping to find a place with a shed or build one and it will have a stove also. Been skinning in a cold building and it's not fun after riding a snowmobile and getting soaked. Jon

I have built three would splitters to date and the last one has not been used in three years. I went to pellet stoves about 5 years ago and never looked back. I heat my entire house with 4 ton, maybe 5 in a bad winter. I am never home in the winter and it is much easier for the wife to fill the pellet stove with out having to go out side. Dave

My grandpa built a few splitters but sold them or gave them away when I was younger. We burned wood growing up with him and he got a pellet stove years ago. They were nice to drop a bag into and let it burn away. We have a nice wood stove in the place I live now and use it for primary heat in the house. All other heat is baseboard and electricity is expensive up here. Out power goes out during the winter quite a bit so a stove that doesn't need any power is sure nice. My wife had never been around wood heat and the first winter she stayed here it always freaked her out when the temps dropped and no power. Any more she says any place we move has to have two things, dishwasher and wood stove. As of right now I have half my wood inside and plenty already cut waiting to be split and tossed in to fill my wood room. Now just need it to quit raining everyday after work so I can get it finished. Jon

Raining here also, Just got my pellets delivered, 10 ton to move inside the basement that will heat both my house and daughters apartment with some extra. I have a generator if needed for power outages. I run 2 dehumidifiers to help dry the pellets more for higher BTU out put this winter. I miss doing the wood. Dave
