I don't think I will be able to make it down unfortunately. I wish you all luck on your sales. Let us know how it goes.

I hope it holds on too. I still have a few coyotes and two cats to sell. It would be great if things held out for a few more weeks at least.

Ok guys, I just got home from the auction in Rupert. Here is a run down on how I did. 10 coyotes - $608.00 (The tail end of what I had for the year. Some rubs) $60.80 ave. 4 Coon - $50.29 ($12.57 ave.) 1 Skunk - $8.26 2.6 ounces of Porky hair - $57.73 1 Bobcat - $142.77 (that one was a little disappointing) 1 Bobcat - $508.77 (that one made up for the other one)
I had a friend that was listening and he came up and told me that he thought I had the high cat. I know there were a lot of guys that were real disappointed in the cat and muskrat prices. I don't know what the average was on the cats but I don't think it will be over $250 if that. Another guy told me that he thought the average on the rats were about $4.00. All in all I guess I did alright.

I believe there were about six or seven buyers. ALCC, Bridger Fur, Rocky Mountain and Bartow were the ones that bought my stuff. Also I remember that the guys from Paris, Idaho were there and Darold Roldman from Montana were there. Most of the coyotes seemed to do well if they were taken care of decently and you're right about the cats. There were a few that were in the 4-500 range but the rest were in the 150 or lower range. I think we're in for about the same market for the next couple years, or at least until we have a change in the political administration we currently have.

It seems that there was a definite line drawn with cats this year they were either real good or real bad no middle of the road this year. I hope they don't make that a trend for years to come.seems like everything below an A grade 38" or better didn't do good at all.

The one on the left was my 508 dollar cat and the one on he right is 142. The lengths aren't that much different, 45" on the left and 43" on the right. One thing I overheard one of the buyers talking about was how the larger spots on the left one extended part way up the sides where it didn't on the right one. Also the one on the left has more character in the back where the right one is very plain. This year it seemed like they were also looking at the hair length. The one on the left had longer hair on the belly and sides. For years I've heard how cats will prime up later and some won't even set a cat trap until the middle of January. The cat on the left was caught just before Christmas and the one on the right was caught the first of February. I have caught higher dollar cats later in the season but I'm beginning to think that maybe it has more to do with genetics than the time of the season.

Well it is what I it is, nothing we can do about the quality of the fur we get. It was another great year of trapping and looking forward to a lot more. Can always hope the prices will get better but have been trapping a lot of years and it has always been one of the craziest roller coaster rides anywhere. Prices will be back just a matter of time. I'm looking forward to the summer months of scouting and getting ready for next year. Got to throw some fishing in up your way a few times this summer as well.
