So the same old man I had the pleasure of meeting last week also gave me his opinion on chunk bait. I asked him what is your favorite chunk bait and his reply was... well for coyote it is coyote.. This through me for a loop to say the least.. I asked him why he thought that and he told me that if you take coyote meat and cut it up like stew meat and tainted it that you could use it in a dirt hole set and the coyotes would come in and get caught but would never eat the bait thus allowing you to pick up the bait they dug out shove it back down the hole and reset. I myself thought this to be a nifty idea.
Now I just got done making some chunk bait for the season myself, but I used about 12 bull heads and 5 carp. I chunked them up good through em in a bucket and let em go for awhile. Opening the lid on that bucket sure makes you cringe the first time. Then after that you know what smells to expect hehe. I am wanting to try and get some beaver and muskrat right at the beginning of the season so I can make some bait out of them.
Let us know your recipe for chunk or ground bait and the why.
