So I use dish soap and a wire brush to clean my traps in cold water first then I will boil them with borax or dish soap for an hour or so. I then get my dye going (I use Black logwood crystals). Get the dye to just below the boiling point and add traps. I check my traps at an hour and sometimes leave them for up to 2 hours in the dye. When it comes down to waxing traps that is where I am lacking. I have tried just melting the wax and dipping traps that way. I am thinking of boiling water then melting wax on top reducing heat and then adding traps and pulling through the wax on top. Any help in this area would be great since I am going to be trying and waxing my land traps this weekend.

Do mostly what you are doing for cleaning and dying but for waxing I buy a 10lbs block at the hobby stores then break it up and get it all melted. Try and do this when you got good sun so the traps are kinda warm. When you dip your traps in the wax leave them for a few minuets to let the traps warm up. The wax seems to melt right into them when they are warm. I waxed a doz MB 750 Alaskan Wolf with 10 ft of chain and super heavy drags I built. Took me a while to get the timing right so just watch them and they will tell you when they are good to go. Last season I waxed about 10 doz of all sizes. This year I did the Full Metal Jacket dip and like it so far. Good luck hope this helps.

X2 like jmack said.
I have tried it both ways with better results melting just the wax in in a pan with no water. Heat the wax until it is all melted. It is ready when it starts to smoke a little. do not let it boil. Do not dip cold traps. On cloudy days, warm traps in the barbeque grill, just do not get caught. Then Dip traps and leave in so trap and wax is same temp, 30 sec maybe, pull out and let drip off. They will look like there is no wax on them at all, a very thin wax. If you can see a thick wax coat, traps are two cold or not left in long enough. You will get the hang of it after a few are done. Does not work good for water sets, turns gooey. Dave
