So my father and I worked hard this weekend getting the trap shed rearranged and loading and organizing everything in the trapping rig. I then went about melting my wax for my hand at waxing 6 1.5 CS dukes and 3 #3 DLS and 1 #3 Jump. I tell you what 10 pounds of wax takes a long time to melt down but was not enough to cover every inch in one whack. When the wax was up to temp I would add 2-3 traps at a time to it and I started to notice that the wax would turn a milky color when the cold traps entered. I then realized that after a while the wax would go back to its normal color. This is when I would roll the trap over to cover the rest and then pull drip wax back into pot and hang. I tell you what I did a better wax job this year then I did last year. So I think the key is having enough wax and paying attention to the color of the wax when your traps go in and then when it clears up they are done. if I am wrong let me know but it worked for me. So I am set for the season now. I have 4 k9 specific sets I will be putting in and then 21 raccoon sets and 43 muskrat/mink leg holds and conis and then my 19 colony traps. I think my weekends will be rather busy hehe. I will post pics of my truck setup when I get home this evening.

One beaver was 54 1/2 pounds the second one was 50 pounds and the third one was small, did not even put that one on the scales. Dave

Sweet. As of this morning there were no coons in my ten sets. My dad put another four out today and said it looked like three of the ten DPS had been worked but not set off.. Hope that even though it is stormy I get a few tomorrow morning. Head out early to check.

Good luck out there. It has been raining and turned to snow this morning but still no real cold yet so the coons should be moving yet. Seems the storms moving around make the K9 move real good. Looking forward to pics.

Don't get discouraged. I know it's hard with all the excitement and then nothing. I have had K9 sets out since Oct 22nd and only one fox. You will get them. Dont know what kind of weather you are having right now but we are getting snow/ rain and all the land critters have holed up right now. Haven't picked up anything for a few days except beaver and rats. Keep your chin up they will be back.
